Southeast Regional Instructor Academy

TRAINING OVERVIEW:

The Regional Instructor Academy is designed to share:

  1. methodologies and instructor strategies for success,
  2. tactical classroom management techniques, and
  3. other tools to successfully host an evidence-based entrepreneurship (EBE) course.

These sessions allow you to virtually gather with peers from institutions and organizations throughout the country to discuss what works best when teaching I-Corps-styled curriculum, including program modification opportunities.

In addition to providing the ground work for discipline agnostic approaches to teaching and coaching teams through EBE and I-Corps curriculum, the course also introduces how best to adapt the approach to handle industry-specific and specialty topics and cohorts for I-Corps participant teams.

Eligibility: University instructors, academic program affiliates and other organizations are invited to participate in Instructor Academy. Applicants are placed into cohorts as space is available.

Advanced Experiential Instructor Training

TRAINING OVERVIEW:

Held on the Canvas Learning Management platform, our Advanced Experiential Instructor Training expands on instructor training by engaging instructors deeper into the Lean LaunchPad methodologies to better prepare instructors for teaching extended seven-week cohorts as well as domain-specific cohorts.

The Advanced Trainings are Formatted as a Two-Phase course:

THE FIRST PHASE consists of a self-paced course that introduces the tools, philosophy, and methodologies of the I-Corps program. Participants can complete this phase as part of their professional development and receive certification upon completion.

THE SECOND PHASE involves shadowing experienced instructors during Local or Regional I-Corps courses. Trainees will work directly with I-Corps teams, observing and participating in the program delivery process. After each course module, trainees will engage in reflective discussions with other participants to deepen their understanding of the methodology.

Eligibility:

(1) All participants are required to complete the Regional Instructor Academy to enroll in Phase-1 Advanced Experiential Instructor Training.

(2) Phase-2 training is only available to individuals sponsored by a Southeast Hub institution.

Opportunities for Advanced Instructors

OVERVIEW:

We welcome continued engagement from experienced instructors joining Regional Hub or National I-Corps Mentoring Networks and have further opportunities available to them to support continued development and positioning within the national I-Corps ecosystem.

Additionally, I-Corps Offers ongoing growth opportunities for more advanced instructors, including nominated selection to become a National Instructor through I-Corps' competitive and formal Faculty-in-Training (FIT) program.

Eligibility:
In terms of expectations, priority leans toward instructors who demonstrate substantial experience teaching at the regional level, a strong command of Lean Startup methodology, and prior participation in at least two NSF national cohorts. This reflects a broader recognition that teaching within regional programs differs significantly from national delivery—in scale, audience composition, and instructional rigor—and requires a higher degree of pedagogical maturity and adaptability.
